BACKGROUND: Since 1920 the Masons of California have helped make public education a focal issue in California. During the annual observance of Public Schools Month, the fraternity joins with the community in support of public education.
April is Public Schools Month and this year, it begins in San Diego. The leaders of the Masons of California and San Diego Unified School District will bring the community together for a kickoff event hosted William Taft Middle School. Leaders of San Diego area Masonic lodges and the California Masonic Foundation will present a $49,000 check to San Diego Unified School District for the Investment in Success Scholarship Program.
The Investment in Success Scholarship Program will support students for whom higher education is not a given. The Masons of California hope to give these students the security of knowing that others believe in their ability to excel and seek to provide them with the support they need to achieve that end.
Freemasonry is the world's first and largest fraternal organization, based on the belief that a man who strives to improve himself can also improve his community and the world at large. The Masons of California have more than 60,000 members and about 340 lodges located throughout the state.
