Global Peace Run to Pass Through John Muir Language Academy
May 30, 2024
WHAT: Students from John Muir Language Academy (JMLA) will welcome, and participate in, this year’s Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run. JMLA is one of only two San Diego Unified schools to host a leg of this year’s run.
Started in 1987, the Peace Run is a global torch relay that offers everyone a chance to express their desire for peace. Since its inception, the relay has visited almost every country - over 150 nations and territories. World leaders and advocates for peace, including Nelson Mandela and Mother Teresa, are among those to have held the torch, in addition to 7 million schoolchildren, educators, and others.
New Zealand ultramarathoner Harita Davies is the team captain on this year’s Peace Run relay and is leading an international team from nine countries on a four-month journey across the U.S. and Canada.
WHEN: Friday, May 31, 12-1 p.m.
WHERE: John Muir Language Academy, 4431 Mt Herbert Ave, San Diego, CA 92117
VISUALS: Members of this year’s Peace Run relay entering JMLA’s campus, students joining runners for a lap, students holding and passing torch, school dedication of a campus Peace Tree, presentation and assembly.
