Superintendent Commends Gov. Newsom's May Revise Budget for Investments in Community Schools and Extended Learning Opportunities

San Diego Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Lamont Jackson commended Gov. Gavin Newsom for his revision of the 2024-25 State Budget, and thanked the Legislature for taking early actions to minimize the fiscal impact from declining revenues.

"The May Revise maintains a commitment to preserve the progress that has been made through Community Schools, after-school and summer-school programs. I also thank Governor Newsom for considering our sponsored legislation with Assembly Member Muratsuchi, AB 2112, to stabilize existing funding rates in the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program. And while I remain appreciative that the COLA increased to 1.07, I am concerned that it is not sufficient to keep up with rising costs in one of the nation's most expensive cities. I encourage considering revenue generating proposals."

Superintendent Jackson pledged to continue working with the San Diego Unified community to minimize any impacts to schools.

"Last year, we began a budget planning process in anticipation of lower revenues. While the state budget process is dynamic with new information every time there is an update, our team is committed to ensuring all students reach their full potential. I look forward to working with the Governor's Administration and the Legislature as they finalize the State Budget."
