February

21 -- Dallas Brass, 7 p.m., Correia Middle School, 4302 Valeta St. (92107). Members of the world-renown wind ensemble will work with Correia students during the day at a band clinic, and then perform on Saturday night -- with students joining them for their final number. 22 -- High School Instrumental Honor Concert, 3 p.m., Copley Symphony Hall, 750 B St. (92101). 23 -- News Conference Supporting Culinary Programs by California Restaurant Association, San Diego Chapter, 9:30 a.m., Morse High School, 6905 Skyline Dr. (92114). Local culinary experts will be presenting a check and providing support for San Diego Unified's culinary arts programs. City Council Member Tony Young and SDUSD Board President Shelia Jackson will be on hand, as will teacher Sarah Smith and her Morse culinary students. 25-26 -- Senior Dance Production, 7 p.m., Florence Johnson Grand Theatre, San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA), 2425 Dusk Drive (92139). Seniors in the SCPA dance program share their original choreographed works in this production, which is danced by seniors as well. Tickets are $8-$10 adults, $7-$9 for students, seniors and military. 2 -- Read Across America Day, at schools around San Diego Unified School District and across the country. 5-7 -- Robotics Competition, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, San Diego Sports Arena, 3500 Sports Arena Blvd. (92110). FIRST San Diego Regional Robotics Competition draws teams from 48 high schools around the country. Students design and build the robots, competing for prizes. Six teams from San Diego Unified will compete for prizes. Six of the teams will be from San Diego Unified, through the College Career and Technical Education Program and Regional Occupational Program. No charge for the public to view the event. 5 - OASIS Tutor Support Meeting, 1-2:30 p.m., Macy's, Mission Valley Center. Third Floor. Quarterly meeting of senior volunteers who work in schools, sponsored by the district's Community Relations Department. Tutors learn new strategies to assist K-4 students in reading as well as network with other OASIS tutors to reflect on tutoring experiences. Pre-register. Anything that can go wrong does in this hilarious story of a community theatre group trying desperately to put on a play in spite of the playwright's constant revisions.
