issues related to the H1N1 (swine) flu as of 5 p.m., May 5, 2009.
-- Schools Open: The Kearny High Educational Complex in Clairemont Mesa
East and San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts in Bay
Terraces will welcome back students, teachers and staff tomorrow
morning. Regular school hours will be observed for a Wednesday, and
school buses will pick up students at regular times. The County of San
Diego's Health and Human Services Agency gave the go-ahead on Tuesday,
following guidelines that were revised Tuesday by the federal Centers
for Disease Control (http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/k12_dismissal.htm).
Kearny and SCPA staff and students -- along with students who attend
other schools but live in a home with a Kearny or SCPA student -- and do
not exhibit signs of illness, can return.
-- Sick, Stay Home: According to health authorities, students and staff
should stay home from any school if they have a 100-degree or higher
fever, along with one of the following: a cough, sore throat or other
suspect acute respiratory symptoms.
-- H1N1 Flu Telephone Hotline Open: A flu hotline (619) 260-5409, is now
open to address medical questions from both staff and families. The
number will be staffed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday-Friday. Members of
San Diego Unified's Nursing and Wellness staff, including Spanish
speakers, will be available to talk with parents and guardians about
H1N1 Virus health issues. If staff is busy answering other calls,
parents can leave a message and the call will be returned within 24
hours.
-- Audio Message: A telephone message will be sent to all
parent/guardian homes Tuesday evening with the information about the
reopenings of Kearny and SCPA.
