-- Schools Closed: Two San Diego Unified schools will be closed on Monday, May 4: The Kearny High Educational Complex and San Diego School for Creative and Performing Arts. The closures were made based on direction from the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency. One student at each school is suspected of having the H1N1 virus. Students should stay home and not congregate in large groups for 7-10 days, according to the health department.
-- Schools Open: All schools, including year-round schools, will be open on Monday, May 4, 2009, except for those at the Kearny Educational Complex and the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA).
-- District Hotline: A telephone hotline is being established by San Diego Unified for questions from parents and staff. We'll notify you as soon as it opens and the telephone number to call.
-- After-School Activities at Kearny and SCPA: Activities are cancelled until further notice. The district will notify the community when this status changes.
-- Siblings of SCPA and Kearny Students: Brothers and sisters of Kearny and SCPA students should stay home as well and not congregate in groups for 7-10 days, as requested by the county. Parents/Guardians should report these absences to their child's school and indicate that they have a brother or sister who attends Kearny or SCPA.
-- Teachers and Staff Stay Home: Unless otherwise requested by their supervisor, teachers and staff at Kearny and SCPA should stay home on Monday and Tuesday, May 4-5. All staff should report to work on May 6 to both campuses.
-- 100-Degree Fever: Any student or staff member who is ill with a 100-degree or higher fever, cough and sore throat should stay home and report this to the school office. County health officials have requested notification by the district of any cases such as this; the district will pass this information along.
-- Homework for Students: District staff will be working Monday to arrange issues regarding homework and ways to continue learning during this disruptive period for students who are home from school.
-- Continued Notices: The district will continue to keep its parents, staff and the community informed of issues as information becomes available. These letters to the community will continue until further notice on at least a daily basis. Check the district's website for additional information as it becomes available.
-- Updated H1N1 virus information is on the county's website at www.sdcounty.ca.gov, or, in San Diego County, by dialing 211.
