MEDIA ADVISORY -- New Board President, Vice President, Map Budget Strategy

MEDIA ADVISORY from the San Diego Unified School District, December 16, 2009

NEW BOARD PRESIDENT, VICE PRESIDENT MAP BUDGET STRATEGY

WHEN: 11 a.m. Thursday, December 17, 2009

WHERE: Courtyard, Eugene Brucker Education Center, 4100 Normal Street.
Parking is available in media spots on the north side of the Board
Auditorium and in the public spaces off Normal Street.

WHAT: Richard Barrera, new Board of Education President, and John Lee Evans,
new Vice-President, will discuss the district¹s strategies for fighting a
possible state funding cut of as much as $200 million for the 2010-11 school
year. The Board and San Diego community, based on recent town hall meetings,
are convinced that this would cripple the district¹s ability to properly
educate the next generation of San Diegans. The Board will work starting in
January with the San Diego community, including continued public outreach,
Board workshops and efforts to carry the message to legislators in
Sacramento.

Photo/video: After brief remarks, Barrera and Evans will be available for
questions.
