Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. This is a significant
award for Bruce Ward, San Diego Unified's Director of Physical Education,
Health and Athletics. The SDSU graduate and former Charger has been a force

Bruce Q. Ward, CMAA to receive NIAAA State Award of Merit
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Bruce Whitehead
Indianapolis, IN (April 17, 2010) Bruce Q. Ward, CMAA district director of
Physical Education, Health and Athletics for the San Diego Unified School
District, will be presented the 2010 State Award of Merit by the California
State Athletic Directors Association on April 25, 2010 The presentation will
be made at the state conference for athletic administrators at the Nugget
Hotel in Reno, Nevada.
Ward is a graduate of San Diego State University and was a sixth round
selection by the San Diego Chargers in 1972. He also played with the Kansas
City Chiefs and the Southern California Sun of the World Football League.
His service to education spans thirty-six years and he has been an athletic
administrator for twenty-one of those years. He has also served as a head
football coach for ten years and a head track coach for six years.
His service to the CSADA has been extensive. He is currently the San Diego
section vice president and is the president elect for the CSADA. He has
spoken at numerous state conferences. He has also served the NIAAA as a
presenter at numerous national conferences. Bruce has also served on three
national conference host committees and served as the national conference
host committee chairperson for the 2008 national conference as well as the
2000 national conference.
Bruce has also received numerous awards. Those include the San Diego
Curriculum and Instruction Administrator of the Year in 2008, the CAHPERD
Outstanding Service Award for Administration and the California Athletic
Director of the Year Award.
