Friday Night Lights: Clairemont High School celebrates its new football stadium Friday (tomorrow)
WHAT: San Diego Unified School District's Clairemont High School is inviting the community to a celebration that marks the opening of its recently renovated football stadium, and its first home football games (junior varsity and varsity). A short dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony (10 minutes) will be held during the break between the JV and varsity football games. The festivities, including fireworks, will continue during halftime of the varsity game. The Associated Student Body Association (ASB) will be selling food. The Parent, Teacher, Student Association, Clairemont High School Foundation and Football Boosters will be raising funds to support the school while celebrating the new stadium.
Funded by Propositions S, the $7.6 million renovations to the stadium include: . New home-side accessible bleachers for nearly 1,600 people . New home-side concession stand, ticket booth and announcer's booth . New visitor's-side accessible bleachers for approximately 800 people . New visitor's-side accessible parking, restrooms, concession stand and ticket booth . Field amenities: athletic equipment storage building, field lighting, an artificial turf field, and a nine-lane, all-weather track

WHERE: Clairemont High School 4150 Ute Drive, Clairemont (92117) Directions: From northbound Interstate 5, exit Balboa Avenue and head east to Clairemont Drive; turn right (south) on Clairemont Drive to Ute Drive, turn right (west). From southbound Interstate 5, exit Grand/Garnet/Balboa Avenue, turn left (east) on Garnet Ave. to Clairemont Drive; turn right (south) on Clairemont Drive to Ute Drive, turn right (west).From Interstate 805, exit Balboa Ave. west; south on Clairemont Drive to Ute Drive, turn right (west). Media parking will be available on site on dirt lot near the scoreboard at the south end of the stadium. (School map attached.)
VISUALS: Ribbon-cutting ceremony (5:45 p.m.), presentation of colors by Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (6:20 p.m.), national anthem performed by high school student (6:25 p.m.), varsity football game (starts at 6:30 p.m.), fireworks at halftime (halftime occurs at approximately 7:30 p.m.)
GUEST SPEAKERS/INTERVIEWS: Athletic Director Gerry Knuppel, Board Vice President John Lee Evans and Area Four Superintendent Marian Phelps will be available for interviews. Interviews available in English and Spanish.
BACKGROUND: On November 4, 2008, nearly 69 percent of the voters in San Diego passed the $2.1 billion general obligation bond measure, Proposition S, so that San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) could repair, renovate and revitalize more than 200 schools.
The project partners for this facility were Mele Amantea Architects, Triton Structural (stadium construction) and Byrom-Davey, Inc. (field and track installation).
