MEDIA ADVISORY -- First Day of School Activities

MEDIA ADVISORY from the San Diego Unified School District, Sept. 1, 2011

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

WHAT: Back to School, Sept. 1, 2011, media availabilities by Supt. Bill Kowba, photo locations.

WHEN: Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011

For morning shows, 5-9 a.m., Clairemont High School, 4150 Ute Dr. (92117).
-- Supt. Bill Kowba will be available for interviews from 6-7:15 a.m.
-- Location will be available for live trucks at 4:45 a.m. Enter from visitor parking area off Ute Drive (south side of campus).
-- Clairemont High varsity football team and cheer squad will also be available, along with coach Dave Bottom.
-- New stadium will be shooting location; lights (new) will be on.
-- From 7-9 a.m., alternative locations will be available: Clairemont High Presidential Museum; Pep Band; and cafeteria treats ("lunch lady"). Parking for these segments will be off of Modoc St.
-- On-site contact: Linda Zintz, 619-847-6637.

8:15-8:45, Supt. Kowba will be at Wilson Middle School, 3838 Orange Ave. (92105). He'll be greeting the students, parents/guardians, teachers and staff on the first day of school. He'll be available for interviews there, along with principal Bernadette Nguyen. Contact: Bernie Rhinerson, Chief of Staff, 619-300-7015.

9-9:45 a.m., Supt. Kowba will be making a quick visit to Juarez Elementary School, 2633 Melbourne Dr. (92123). Juarez is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2011-12. Supt,. Kowba will be available for interviews, as will principal Marceline Marques. Contact: Bernie Rhinerson, Chief of Staff, 619-300-7015.

Supt. Kowba will be in Board of Education Closed Session in the afternoon, so these times will be when he's available for comment on Tuesday.
