LOCAL COMMUNITY CAMPAIGN LAUNCHES
TO BOOST ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT
Sept. 15 Press Conference Will Announce Unprecedented Local Education
Initiative

WHO: The San Diego Union-Tribune, the United Way of San Diego County and
the San Diego County Office of Education are joining forces to launch a
large scale, unprecedented effort to help boost academic achievement of
San Diego schoolchildren.

WHAT: Research shows that engaging students while learning in school, and
connecting students with the resources they need outside of school, can
have a positive effect on educational success. How do we as a community
achieve success?

Join us at Farb Middle School, Thursday, Sept. 15, for the campaign
announcement and to see it in action.

Joining together to discuss the new campaign will be:
€ Bill Kowba, San Diego Unified School District Superintendent
€ Ed Moss, president and publisher of the Union-Tribune
€ Doug Sawyer, president and CEO of United Way of San Diego County
€ John Roach, Carlsbad Unified School District Superintendent (also
representing 41 San Diego County School District Superintendents)
€ Darin Curtis, 2011 California Teacher of the Year (Lakeside USD)
€ Other regional education experts
