MEDIA CALENDAR -- Upcoming Events in the San Diego Unified
School District

Your coverage is invited of any of the following upcoming
events on the campuses of the San Diego Unified School District. For more
items, check out the calendar on the front of the district website at

Please note that if items are listed as "not open to
the public," that means accredited members of the media are invited, but
the general public is not. These are generally items during the school
day.

SEPTEMBER

17 -- San Diego High School Cluster Council, 5:30 p.m., San
Diego High School, 1405 Park Blvd. (92101). Clusters are a pre-Kindergarten
through grade 12 community of schools with established feeder patterns.
Within
these communities of schools, there are specific needs and interests that
are
both common and unique to the cluster. Contact: Jennifer Roberson,

* 19 -- Sunset View Elementary Kick-Off Picnic Dinner,
5:30-7 p.m., Sunset View Elementary School, 4365 Hill St. (92107).
Let's celebrate the start of the new school year! Bring the whole family
for a

20 -- Baker Elementary School Open House, 4:30-6 p.m., Baker
Elementary School, 4041 T St. (92113). Visit and learn about one
of San Diego's finest elementary schools. Contact: Armando Farias,

21 -- Birney Elementary International Day of Peace
Celebration, 9:30-10 a.m., Birney Elementary School, 4345 Campus Ave.
(92103). Students
at the International Baccalaureate school will gather to create a giant
peace symbol
on their playground to celebrate the International Day of Peace. Contact:

22 -- Barnard Elementary Campus Cleanup and Coffee Social, 8
a.m. to 2 p.m., Barnard Elementary School, 2930 Barnard St. (92110). The
Pt.
Loma campus's families and community will be joining together to spruce up
the

* 24 -- University City High School Cluster Advisory Group,
4:30 p.m., University City High School, 6949 Genesee Ave. (92122).
Clusters are

27 -- Pt. Loma High School Open House, 5:30 p.m., Pt. Loma

29 -- Parent Advocacy Training and Youth Workshop, 9 a.m. to
1:30 p.m., Cherokee Point Elementary School, 3735 38th St. (92105). Two
workshops are being offered at this time. Parent Advocacy is an interactive
workshops for families to be the best advocate for their child, discussing
the important
issues affecting their child's education, and what families can do about
it.
The youth seminar covers topics such as student rights at school. Contact:

October

6 -- EdUCate!'s Fourth Annual Oktoberfest, 2-6 p.m. Standley
Park and Recreation Center, 3585 Governor Drive (92122). EdUCate! is the
community support group for University City schools. Its fourth annual
Oktoberfest hopes to raise $15,000 to benefit the five public schools in
University City. Activities include a rock-climbing wall, jousting, penguin
flicker, giant Jenga and more! Contact: www.uc-educate.org. Open to the
public.

26 -- Lincoln High Homecoming for Class of 1962, 6 p.m.,
stadium, Lincoln High School, 4777 Imperial Ave. (92113). It's back to the
future for the 50th reunion of the hot Hornets from '62 during the annual

* 23 -- Taste of La Jolla Benefitting Foundation of La Jolla
High School, 6-8:30 p.m., downtown La Jolla. a gourmet taste tour of La
Jolla
restaurants will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 23. This is your chance to
stroll
the streets of La Jolla, enjoy a "Taste" from each of the 20 plus
participating restaurants and attend an exclusive After-Party at Barfly
Restaurant & Lounge with special pricing for drinks. Cost: $45. Contact:
