NEWS RELEASE -- UPDATE -- Serra High School Lockdown Lifted

NEWS RELEASE from the San Diego Unified School District

UPDATE -- SERRA HIGH SCHOOL LOCKDOWN LIFTED

SAN DIEGO -- The lockdown at Serra High School was lifted at 9:35 a.m.
today and students are returning to the Tierrasanta campus under
supervision of San Diego Unified School District staff.

Notification went out to parents at 7:15 a.m. today of the campus
lockdown, caused by police activity following suspects stealing materials
from a construction site on campus. There is no report on suspects being
taken into custody but police have finished their search of the canyon
north of the campus.

Serra parents and guardians are receiving a telephone message with
instructions.

Serra High School is located at 5156 Santo Rd. (92124) in the Tierrasanta
neighborhood. Students or staff members are being kept safe at all times
on campus and a DePortola Middle School, 11010 Clairemont Mesa Blvd.
(92124).

Suspects were seen at around 7 a.m. carrying copper wire from the
construction site on campus. The suspects were chased into the canyon by
school staff, who believe they heard a shot fired. San Diego Unified
School Police and San Diego Police Department officers are conducting a
search of the canyon, which runs between Santo Road and Interstate 15 on
the north side of the campus.
