SERRA HIGH SCHOOL UPDATE

SAN DIEGO -- Students at Serra High School are either safe inside the
locked-down campus, under school staff and school police supervision at
nearby DePortola Middle School, or at home at their parents' discretion,
due to a lockdown that began at 7 a.m. today at the Tierrasanta
neighborhood school.

Notification went out to parents at 7:15 a.m. today of the campus
lockdown, caused by police activity following suspects stealing materials
from a construction site on campus. School police are hoping to complete a
search of the nearby campus and reopen the campus by 10 a.m.

When Serra is reopened and students can return, parents and guardians will
received a telephone message with instructions.

Serra High School is located at 5156 Santo Rd. (92124) in the Tierrasanta
neighborhood. Students or staff members are being kept safe at all times
on campus and a DePortola Middle School, 11010 Clairemont Mesa Blvd.
(92124). Parents of Serra students wishing to reunite with their child at
DePortola can call the Serra High School office at (858) 496-8342 to make

Suspects were seen at around 7 a.m. carrying copper wire from the
construction site on campus. The suspects were chased into the canyon by
school staff, who believe they heard a shot fired. San Diego Unified
School Police and San Diego Police Department officers are conducting a
search of the canyon, which runs between Santo Road and Interstate 15 on
the north side of the campus.

When the lockout is lifted, Serra students at DePortola will be moved to
