Funded to the San Diego Unified School District through the US Department

to Winter Break follows two years of providing lunches during the Spring
Break. The program is designed to help families where the parent/guardian
works during the day, providing lunch and activities for kids.

Under the program, kids age 18 and under will receive a nutritious lunch
Monday-Friday at specific locations; during the Winter Break, the "Winter
Fun Café" operates at City of San Diego Recreation Centers that are
located within the San Diego Unified School District's boundaries. There's
no paperwork or other restrictions; parents can drop their children off
for lunch and play at the city park. For locations go to

The program is a partnership between the San Diego Unified School District
and the City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department.

making a few remarks. Phil Stover, San Diego Unified School District
Deputy Superintendent for Administration, will be available for interviews
about the program, as will Gary Petill, Food Services Director. Capt.
Winton Smith, Commanding Officer, Naval Base San Diego, is also scheduled
to be in attendance; the Tierrasanta center's proximity to the Murphy
Canyon naval housing is expected to bring children of military dependents.
