MEDIA CALENDAR -- Upcoming Events in the San Diego Unified School

means accredited members of the media are invited, but the general public
is not. These are generally items during the school day.

DECEMBER
15 -- Clairemont High School Drama presents ³It¹s a Wonderful Life², 7
p.m. Clairemont High School, 4150 Ute Dr. (92117). Made famous by Jimmy
Stewart¹s portrayal of George Bailey in the 1946 movie, Clairemont High
School Drama presents the story of an angel-in-training who gives a
despondent man a look at what the world would be like if he had never been

15 -- JROTC Regulation Drill Competition, 9 a.m., Madison High School,
4833 Dolvia Dr. (92117). JROTC units throughout the district will compete
in the annual Joint Brigade Regulation Drill competition to determine the
overall best drill unit. The competition is designed to showcase military
drill precision and foster an atmosphere of team and individual
competition, while promoting true sportsmanship. Lt. Col. (retired) David

17 -- Winter Break begins for schools on year-round schedule.

* 18 -- Pt. Loma High School Winter Instrumental Music Concert, 7 p.m.,
Pt. Loma High School, 2335 Chatsworth Blvd. (92106). Enjoy an evening of
music, as well as gifts that benefit the band program and can make great

19 -- Band and Choir Winter Concert, 7-9 p.m., Scripps Ranch High School

19 -- Picture Yourself at Madison, 8:30-11:30 a.m., Madison High School,
4833 Doliva Dr. (92117). Assembly and tour for Innovation Middle School
and all prospective non-resident parents and students considering
enrollment at Madison for fall 2013. Contact: Madison High (858)-496-8410.
Open to interested families/prospective students.

* Cabrillo Elementary School Holiday Music Program, 6 p.m., Cabrillo
Elementary School, 3120 Talbot St. (92106). Kindergarden through grade for
campus has a program of old favorites in the auditorium. Contact: Nestor

20 -- Orchestra Winter Concert, 7-9 p.m., Scripps Ranch High School

* 20 -- Holmes Elementary Winter Program, 6 p.m., Holmes Elementary
School, 4902 Mt. Ararat Dr. (92111). The annual Winter Holiday Program
involves all the classrooms at this Clairemont neighborhood school and is
a tradition observed for many decades. Contact: Jonathan Saipe, Principal,

24 -- Mira Mesa Cluster School Council Meeting, 5:30 p.m., Mira Mesa High
School, 10510 Reagan Rd. (92126). Parents, students and community members
are invited to attend this meeting, which discusses educational issues at
the high school and its middle and elementary schools. Schools in the Mira
Mesa cluster are: Ericson, Hage, Hickman, Mason, Sandburg and Walker
elementary schools; Challenger and Wangenheim middle schools, and Mira

24 -- Winter break begins for schools on traditional schedule. All schools
and offices closed to the public.

JANUARY

7 -- Traditional schools, offices reopen.

* 9 -- University City High Financial Aid Night, 6 p.m., University City
High School, 6949 Genesee Ave. (92122). Representatives from CalSOAP will
be on hand to help parents/guardians and students figure out how to pay
for college. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
application will be explained along with CALGRANT. Contact: Jeff Olivero,

13 -- Kearny Cluster Meeting, 4:30 p.m., Kearny High School Room 301, 7651
Wellington Way, (92111). Parents, students and community members are
invited to attend this meeting, which discusses educational issues at the
high school and its middle and elementary schools. Schools in the Kearny
cluster are: Angier, Carson, Chesterton, Cubberley, Fletcher, Jones,
Juarez, Linda Vista, Ross, and Wegeforth elementariness, Montgomery and

14 -- Year-round schools reopen.

17, 31 -- Bay Park Elementary campus tours, 8:45 -10 a.m., Bay Park
Elementary, 2433 Denver St. (92110). Bay Park Elementary is offering
campus tours for neighborhood Kindergarten students and those interested
in applying through the CHOICE program. Contact: (619) 276-1471. Open to
area residents/interested families.

21 -- Martin Luther King Holiday. All schools and offices closed.

Holmes Elementary School, 4902 Mt. Ararat Dr. (92111). Find out about your
neighborhood school by taking a tour with Principal Jonathan Saipe. If
your child is entering kindergarten next year or you're considering a move
to Clairemont, here's your chance to learn about this school. Contact:

28 -- Area 5 high school cluster meeting, University City High media
