MEDIA ADVISORY - Three San Diego Unified High Schools Go Head-to-Head at Junior Achievement’s Titan Competition

WHAT: Students from Patrick Henry, Crawford and Clairemont high schools will compete at Junior Achievement (JA) of San Diego and Imperial Counties’ Titan of Industry Challenge, a virtual competition designed to test students’ business knowledge and skills.

WHEN: 8:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Thursday, December 13 (rain or shine)

WHERE: University of Phoenix, San Diego Campus, 9645 Granite Ridge Drive (92123)

DETAILS: JA Titan is Junior Achievement’s online simulation that allows teams of high school students to act as chief executive officers of virtual manufacturing companies. The teams make decisions that affect the profitability and sustainability of their companies as they outperform their competitors in profit, sales and market share and learn the nuances of running a global business in a competitive, high-tech marketplace. The winning team from each school is invited to attend and compete against one another in The JA Titans of Industry Business Challenge.

Teams from Clairemont HS have won the competition for the last three years and a two-member team from Patrick Henry HS advanced to the World Global JA Titan Challenge in Delaware last August. The JA Titan program is usually used in the Business 100 or Business Management and Ownership courses in SDUSD. These courses are career technical education courses and provide real-world experiences to students while learning about business. These courses are supported by the Office of College, Career & Technical Education.

This year’s event executives include Dowling & Yahnke Senior Portfolio Manager Michael Brown; Innovative Employee Solutions Former President Elizabeth Rice; Angel Investor Robert Bingham and Junior Achievement of San Diego staff.

VISUALS: Students will run and manage a virtual corporation using computers.
