MEDIA CALENDAR -- Upcoming Events in the San Diego Unified School District

Your coverage is invited of any of the following upcoming events on the
campuses of the San Diego Unified School District. For more items, check
out the calendar on the front of the district website at www.sandi.net.

Please note that if items are listed as "not open to the public," that
means accredited members of the media are invited, but the general public
is not. These are generally items during the school day.

MAY

Through May 25, SCPA Young Art 2013: The Story of Me, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.,
Tuesday through Sunday, The San Diego Museum of Art, Balboa Park. Contact:

* 4 -- Spreckels Elementary School Free eWaste Recycling, 10 a.m. To 2
p.m. Spreckels Elementary School, 6033 Stadium St. (92122). Items that can
be recycled include: computers, monitors, TVs, laptops, cables, printers,
fax-machines, scanners, DVD players, VCRs, and other electronic items.

7 -- San Diego Unified's Day of the Teacher, 4:30 p.m., Kearny High
School, 7651 Wellington St. (92111). The district's annual Teacher of the
Year recognition for school site Teachers of the Year and the district
Teachers of the Year and runners-up. Contact: Jennifer Cornelius Rodriguez

Education meeting; open to the public.

* 9 -- College Career Technical Education Showcase, 4-6 p.m., Market Creek
Events & Venues, 404 Euclid Ave. (92114). A culminating event for
teachers/students to exhibit an outside-of-the-classroom product they
designed or a problem they attempted to solve with the collaboration of at
least one adult from the business community. Students can choose to
compete for prizes or simply showcase their project. Contact: Ralph West,

* 11 -- University City High Mother's Day Afternoon Tea and Concert, 2-4
p.m., Musicians Hall of San Diego, 1717 Morena Blvd. (92110). Join the UC
High School Choir, Orchestra, Jazz Combo and String Ensemble in an
afternoon saluting mom. Includes afternoon tea with a wide vareity of
salads and other goodies, auction and door prizes. Cost, $30 adluts, $25
staff, $19 child (age 10 and under). Contact: Carina, UC High Music

13 -- Area 6 Cluster Meeting, 5:30 p.m., San Diego High School Library,
1405 Park Blvd. (92101). Parents, students and community members are
invited to attend this meeting, which discusses educational issues at the
high school and its middle and elementary schools. Schools in the San
Diego cluster are: Birney, Burbank, Emerson/Bandini, Florence, Garfield,
Jefferson, Kimbrough, McKinley, Rodriguez, Sherman, and Washington
elementary schools; Golden Hill, Grant, Logan, Perkins K-8s; Memorial and
Roosevelt Middle Schools; and San Diego Complex high schools. Contact:

17 -- Rhapsody on the Point, Pt. Loma High concert, 6 p.m., Humphrey's,
2241 Shelter Island Dr. Annual concert and fundraiser for Pt. Loma schools
features Pt. Loma High orchestra, chorus and dance. Students will perform
selections from Leonard Bernstein's operetta, "Candide," and will be
accompanied by a select ensemble choir composed of members from many
distinguished choral groups; and Biebl's "Ave Maria," guest-conducted by
former Pt. Loma High choir teacher Lewis Phelps and featuring alumni
members of the 1965-1969 Pt. Loma High Madrigals. Contact: Kerri DeRosier,

19 -- Loma Portal Home and Garden Tour and Craft Fair, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.,
Loma Portal neighborhood. Tour of local neighborhood and sale benefits

Dominique.m@cox.net. Admission $20 in advance, $25 day of tour. Open to
the public.

21 -- San Diego Unified's 2013 Classified Employee of the Year, 4:30 p.m.,
Mann Middle School, 4345 54th St. (92115). The district's annual
Classified Employee of the Year celebration in which school site and
district facility employees are recognized. One individual will be
recognized as the district's Classified Employee of the Year for 2013.
