MAY
27 -- Memorial Day. All schools and offices closed.
29 -- Correia Middle School Public Scoping Meeting, 6:30 p.m., Correia
Middle School, 4302 Valeta St. (92107). Staff will solicit input from
stakeholders as to the scope and content of the Draft EIR for an upgraded
sports complex on the existing Correia Middle School campus. Contact:

* 30 -- SCPA Jazz Ensemble Benefit Concert, 7 p.m., Queen Bee's Art and
Culture Center, 3925 Ohio St. (92104). The Jazz and Orchestral Studies
Department holding a benefit concert. with performances by SCPA Big Band,
SCPA Thelonius Monk Combo, Jazzical and the Vocal Jazz Ensemble. Contact:

31 -- Curie Elementary School Dad's Club Lunch, noon, Curie Elementary
School, 4080 Governor Dr. (92122). Curie dads will be bringing their
lunches with them when they have the midday meal with their sons and
daughters. Dad's Clubs are a program in many San Diego Unified Schools
that encourage fathers and male guardians to get involved. Contact:

* 31 -- Loma Portal Elementary Spring Fling Music Festival, 5:30 p.m.,
Loma Portal Elementary School, 3341 Browning St. (92106). Students in the
school's music program will be performing in a tribute to the local
community. Local restaurants will supply food and there will be other
entertainment, raising funds for the school. Contact: Glenda Gerde,

31 -- New Roosevelt Middle School Tennis and Basketball Court
Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony, 10 a.m., Roosevelt Middle School, 3366 Park Blvd.
(92103). The Greater San Diego City Tennis Council invites you to a
ribbon-cutting ceremony at Roosevelt Middle School's recently renovated
tennis and basketball courts. Join school leaders, San Diego Unified
School District representatives, community leaders, students, parents,
staff, community members and project partners as we celebrate this
momentous occasion. Partners include: Bill Walton, Junior Seau Foundation,

JUNE
1 -- Benefit concert for Correia Middle School Music Program, 2-7 p.m.,
Humphreys Backstage Live, 2241 Shelter Island Dr. (92106). Young and old
area talent will assemble to support the school, a collaboration between
the First Friday Music Club and Correia Instrumental Music Association.

1 -- Silver Gate Elementary School Beautification Day, 9 a.m. to noon,
Silver Gate Elementary School, 1499 Venice St. (92107). Members of the Pt.
Loma Community Presbyterian Church and Silver Gate families will be
sprucing up the school's kindergarten area. Contact: Sandra McClure,

4 -- Safe Journey, Life Saving Lessons for Today¹s Teen Drivers
presentation, 6-7:30 p.m., Ballard Parent Center, 2375 Congress St.
(92110). The San Diego Unified School District Police Department wants all
teen drivers to be safe this summer and is offering a free safe driving
program. The presentation is specifically for teen drivers and soon-to-be
drivers aged 15 to 19 and addresses the primary causes of crashes and what
teen drivers can do to reduce their chances of being involved in serious
and sometimes fatal crashes. Contact: Officer Donald Williams, (619)

with teen.
11 -- Last day of class for schools on traditional calendar. Commencement

21-26 -- JROTC Leadership Camp, Forest Lawn Scout Reservation, Cedar
Glenn, CA. The top one-fourth of cadets from around Southern California
meeting up for a week of training in leadership and adaptability. The camp
also offers cadets high adventure training in the areas of land
navigation, rappelling, archery, horsemanship, water safety, and

JULY
4 -- Independence Day, all schools and offices closed.
19 -- Last day of school for year-round schools.
AUGUST
26 -- Most school offices reopen for enrolling new students.
