MEDIA ADVISORY--Mission Beach Property

MEDIA ADVISORY SENT ON BEHALF OF SAN DIEGO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD TRUSTEE SCOTT BARNETT,  May 14, 2013

The potential sale to developers of the Mission Beach Elementary site and discussion of the Mayor's offer to work with San Diego Unified to purchase the property will be discussed and acted upon at tonight's school board meeting.

This is the motion Scott Barnett will be making:

MOTION:

This board thanks Mayor Filner for his leadership, and directs staff to work with the Mayor's office to develop details of a sale to the City of San Diego within the following general parameters:

-Mission Beach Elementary School property was appraised at $11 million (which is the asking price for public entities such as the City of San Diego.)

-Market "value" is $18.5 million based on May 2 "auction."

-San Diego Unified determine the "sale price" to be $18,500,001. (one dollar more then high Bid)

San Diego Unified ask City to pay $11 million over the 13/14 and 14/15 fiscal years ($5.5 million per year) and San Diego Unified would retain "equity ownership" of $7,500,001

-City and San Diego Unified work together with the community to determine short term and long term use of the property, which should include dedicated public uses and public revenue producing opportunities.
