FEBRUARY

* 22 -- San Diego County Science Olympiad, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., University
City High School, 6949 Genesee Ave. (92122). More than 80 students from 25
schools are scheduled to compete for prizes and a chance to move up to the

22 -- Military Pathways: College to Success, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., UC San
Diego, 9500 Gilman Drive (92093). Military parents and dependents will
receive information on college admissions, financial aid and Veterans
Administration benefits, panels and other information. More details and

22 -- CalSOAP Cash for College/FAFSA Workshop, 9 a.m., Hoover High School,
4474 El Cajon Blvd. (92115). College-bound students are invited to this
free workshop to learn about how to get money for college and the Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Information on the Dream Act
will also be available and participants can win a $1,000 scholarship.

24 -- Superintendent asks San Diegans to "dream together" and chart course
for schools, 7-9 p.m., Mission Bay High School, 2475 Grand Ave. (92109).
Sub-District C Trustee Scott Barnett hosts this "Vision 20/20 Forum" which
provides input on what is working, what could be improved upon, and how
will the district and community work together to accomplish the district¹s
Vision 2020. The answers to these questions will help chart the course of

* 24 -- Common Core State Standards Mathematics Presentation, 4:30 p.m.,
University City Cluster Committee meeting, University City High School,

students are taught in San Diego, California and around the nation. More

26 -- Honor Theater Performance, "Snapshot," Scripps Ranch High School
theater, 10410 Treena St. (92123). Honor theater brings together the top
theater students in San Diego Unified in one show. Performances are Feb.

* 27 -- Kearny High Athletic Facilities Groundbreaking, 10 a.m., Kearny

on improvements to the school's stadium and baseball field, funded by

3 -- Read Across America Day, various campuses. Celebrities across the
nation mark the anniversary of the birthday of San Diegan Theodor Geisel,

8 -- Clairemont High School Baseball Fundraiser, 10 a.m., Ernie Beck
Field, Clairemont High School, 4150 Ute Dr. (92117). Players gather
pledges on how far they can hit a baseball; contest is held this day.

8 -- Auditions for the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts, 8
a.m., San Diego School for Creative and Performing Arts, 2425 Dusk Dr.
(92113). Learn about the audition process for high school students. SCPA
is celebrating its 36th year as a public arts magnet high school, and
features five majors and 11 programs of study in the arts, plus an
outstanding academic curriculum. Students in grades 9-12 must audition to

and Board Vice President Marne Foster hosts this "Vision 20/20 Forum"

how will the district and community work together to accomplish the
district¹s Vision 2020. The answers to these questions will help chart the

21 -- Curie Elementary School Multi-Cultural Fair, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Curie
Elementary School, 4080 Governor Dr. (92122). At our annual Multi-Cultural
Fair all children will get a taste of some of the many cultures and

22 -- JROTC Cadet Ball, 5 p.m., Town & Country Resort, Atlas Ballroom, 500
Hotel Circle North (92118). JROTC Cadets and dignitaries from the San
Diego Unified School District will participate in the annual Cadet Ball to
honor military traditions, proper etiquette, customs and courtesies. This
social event develops cadet citizenship and social skills in a formal

22 -- La Jolla High School Foundation annual fundraiser, 6 p.m., Green
Acre, 10300 Campus Point Drive (92121). An evening with a variety of food

26 -- Patrick Henry High Performing Arts Center groundbreaking, 3:30 p.m.,
Patrick Henry High School, 6702 Wandermere Drive (92120). The school's
long-awaited auditorium and other improvements begin construction with
this ceremony. Voter-approved bonds are funding part of the project.

APRIL

12 -- Fast Times 5K, 7 a.m., De Anza Cove, Mission Bay. Five-kilometer run
benefits schools in the Clairemont neighborhood, including Clairemont and

MAY

Teen Job Fair, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Roberts Family Branch, Boys and Girls
