MAY

* 17 -- Mission Bay High Jazz on the Green, noon-3 p.m., Mission Bay High
School, 2475 Grand Ave. (92109). Come and enjoy an afternoon filled with
jazz from the award winning MBHS Preservationists and Jazz Ensemble, with
special guests- Euphoria Brass Band. Food and refreshments will be

to the public.

17 -- Birney Elementary garden in San Diego Floral Association tour, 10
a.m., to 4 p.m., Birney Elementary School, 4345 Campus Ave. (92103).
Student-grown produce and plants plus concessions will be sold to benefit
Birney's International Studies magnet program. Contact: Amanda

with admission charge.

* 18 -- UC High Spirit Run, 9 a.m., University City High School, 6949
Genesee Ave. (92122). The inaugural UC Spirit Run has one purpose in mind
and that is to raise money for UC High School, its sports teams and
activities. Runners and walkers for the 5K or 1-mile kids run will enjoy a
course that weaves through the entire UC campus, its athletic fields and
finishes on its track and field facility. Contact: ucspiritrun.org. Open
to the public.

18 -- Reality Changers Scholarship Celebration, 4:30 p.m., Jenny Craig
Pavilion, University of San Diego, 5998 Alcala Park (92110). Reality
Changers, an independent non-profit organization that helps challenged
students complete high school, is celebrating 250 of the region's top
graduating seniors. Speaker is Vicente Fox, Former President of Mexico.

20 -- Classified Employee of the Year Celebration, 5 p.m., Marston Middle
School, 3799 Clairemont Dr. (92117). San Diego Unified School District
honors its classified employees, naming one the 2014 Classified Employee
of the Year. The celebratory off-site board meeting features music and
refreshments provided by students. Contact: Anisha Dalal, Human Resources,

21 - CCTE Showcase, 4- 6 p.m., Liberty Station Conference Center, 2600
Laning Rd. (92106). Culminating event for teachers and students to exhibit
an outside of the classroom product they designed or a problem they
attempted to solve with the collaboration from the business community.
Students can choose to compete for prizes or simply showcase their

* 21 -- Dr. Richard Cash, Supporting Your Child to Success: 4 Critical
Factors in Learning, GATE Distinguished Lecture Series, 7 p.m.,
auditorium, Eugene Brucker Education Center, 4100 Normal St. (92103).
Another in the series of lectures for parents. Contact: Rhonda K.

* 21 ­ University City High School Art Attack, 6:30-8:30 p.m., University
City High School, 6949 Genesee Avenue (92122). UCHS ArtsTECH Academy will
be hosting its tenth annual Art Attack, a showcase of student artwork,
video production, and theatrical pieces from the academy¹ pathway courses
in grades 10-12. Contact: Aaron Pores, ArtsTECH coordinator, (858)

22 -- Hoover High School Design Task Force, 6:30 p.m., Hoover High School,
4474 El Cajon Blvd. (92115). Design Task Force for the new theater and
three-story classroom/administration building project at Hoover High
School includes students, school staff, parents, neighbors, community
members and the architect to discuss the general design of the school, and
how it can best serve the students and the community for years to come.

22 -- Special Education Resource Fair, 6 p.m., Kearny High School, 7651
Wellington St. (92111). Information on post-high school options for

* 22-23 ­ Mission Bay High School Shark Tank, 9-10:30 a.m., Mission Bay
High School Auditorium, 2475 Grand Avenue (92109). Shark Tank, based on
the hit ABC television show, has Mission Bay High business students
pitching their ideas to local industry professionals to start and secure
funding for their fictitious business. Contact: David West, CCTE

26 -- Memorial Day. All schools and offices closed.

28 -- Cabrillo Elementary German American Game Day for Families, 4-6 p.m.,
Cabrillo Elementary School, 3120 Talbot St. (92106). Cabrillo Elementary,
which is a German language elementary school, hosts one leg of Deutsche
Spielwoche San Diego -- German Game Week San Diego, organized by the
German American San Diego Foundation. Attendees have the opportunity to
enjoy well-known German and American board and card games. Contact: Nestor

28 -- Youth Advisory Board Campaigns Premier, 6 p.m., Lincoln High School,
4777 Imperial Ave. (92113). Students from Lincoln, Scripps Ranch and Mira
Mesa high schools have created campaigns to increase awareness about youth

the public.

30 -- Doyle Elementary International Festival, 5-7 p.m., Doyle Elementary
School, 3950 Berino Ct. (92122). Doyle celebrates its amazing diversity of
its students and their families at its annual International Festival.
Join the fun of multicultural performances and booths representing a
variety of countries. Food trucks will be available for purchasing dinner

31 -- Pt. Loma High Foundation Celebration of Chris Brinker, 6:30 p.m.,
Stone Brewing World Bistro and Gardens 2816 Historic Decatur Rd, #116
Liberty Station. Celebrated filmmaker was a Pt. Loma High graduate ('86).
Event will raise money for the school's film and arts programs. Sponsored
