BACKGROUND: This annual event is in its 11th year. Students will exhibit products they produced and business problems they solved in collaboration with members from the local business community. More than 100 industry professionals volunteered to be mentors, guest speakers, or advisors for our students.
High school teachers may enter their students in one of four contest categories. Two are Project-Based Learning projects: High School Team Project or High School Open Project, both of which must include collaboration with at least one adult from the business community. The Team Project must have a minimum of one Career Technical Education (CTE) teacher and one core academic subject teacher working together with any number of students. The Open Project must be completed by a CTE student coached by at CTE teacher. There is a photography competition and a video competition as well.
The Showcase Panel of Judges is comprised of student teachers from the School of Teacher Education, College of Education, San Diego State University; members of the greater San Diego business community; and personnel from San Diego Unified School District.
Prizes will be awarded in each category. Champion teams will receive banners to display at their school site and teachers associated with the teams will receive extra funds in their 2015-2016 Instructional Supplies budget. The Showcase is free and open to the public.
