O'Farrell Charter School Breaks Ground on New High School Buildings
WHAT: Approximately 300 students will join school and district leaders at the ceremonial groundbreaking for the new high school facilities at O'Farrell Charter School. The school is expanding to include a full-service high school complex, which will include nine, new, one-story classroom buildings with 14 classrooms, seven labs, a gymnasium, additional on-site parking and new administration offices.
WHEN: Wednesday, May 6, 9 - 9:30 a.m.
WHERE: O'Farrell Charter School, 6130 Skyline Dr., San Diego, CA 92114 -- Media parking will be available on site. Enter through the northwest gate off 61st St. (A site map is available upon request.)
VISUALS: Ceremonial ground breaking, junior high school band performing at the beginning of the event, student singing National Anthem, student-led Pledge of Allegiance, student speaker, construction equipment and construction site.
SPEAKERS/INTERVIEWS: Dr. Jonathan Dean, superintendent of O'Farrell Charter School; Marne Foster, San Diego Unified School District Board president; Lee Dulgeroff, the school district's chief Facilities Planning & Construction officer; and a student speaker.
PROJECT INFO: The construction is anticipated to be finished during spring 2016. This project represents an investment of nearly $18.5 million into the O'Farrell Charter School and the Skyline Community. The high school expansion is funded by San Diego Unified School District's Proposition Z, the general obligation bond measure approved by voters in 2012. A portion of that bond measure was allocated to San Diego Unified charter schools.
