TWO TOP STUDENTS WIN CAR TONIGHT

WHAT: Cool to be Smart Giveaway

WHEN: 5-7 p.m. today, June 21, 2010

WHERE: Football stadium, Serra High School, 5157 Santo Road (92124).

DETAILS: Two of more than 1,000 of San Diego Unified’s top students will win a car tonight, courtesy of Mossy Automotive Group. The students have taken Advanced Placement and/or International Baccalaureate classes and tests to qualify. Once qualified, students names are placed in a random drawing; two students will win the grand prizes, a choice of several new models from a Mossy dealership. Other prizes are being donated by: Alvarado Hospital Auxiliary, Aqua Adventures Kayak Center, Bazaar Del Mundo, Boomers!, Brothers Family Restaruant, Buffets, Inc., California Coast Credit Union, California Restaurant Management System, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Cygnet Theater Company, ICETOWN, Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, San Diego Bike and Kayak Tours, San Diego County Fair, San Diego Harbor Excursion, San Diego Padres, San Diego Repertory Theater, San Diego Symphony, Seau’s Restaurant, Ultrazone and Z90.3 FM. Prize include two trips, restaurant gift cards and other exciting items.

The program was created to encourage student achievement in high school. Students who passed the Advanced Placement and/or International Baccalaureate tests can receive college credit, meaning these highly educated students took college-level classes in high school.

PHOTOS/SPEAKING: Several Board of Education members and district managers are scheduled to attend. Melisse Mossy of the Mossy Automotive Group (and a former schoolteacher) is also scheduled to attend. Parents, students, teachers and principals will also be in attendance.
