Loma Portal Elementary School Holds Jog-a-thon on New Track and Field

WHAT:  San Diego Unified School District's Loma Portal Elementary School inaugurate its new turf field with a jog-a-thon and dedication ceremony. Students, parents, community members and staff will celebrate with a dedication ceremony tomorrow.

WHEN: Thursday, Oct. 16, 9-9:30 a.m. (The jog-a-thon is immediately following dedication ceremony that starts at 9 a.m.)

WHERE: Loma Portal Elementary School, 3341 Browning St., San Diego, CA 92106
(Media parking is available on site. Enter gate off Clove St. on the west side of the campus.)

VISUALS: Presentation of Colors by Point Loma High School's Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps color guard, student speakers, ceremonial ribbon-cutting, and fourth-graders start school's jog-a-thon with parents and staff cheering on students.

GUEST SPEAKERS/INTERVIEWS: Board of Education member, Loma Portal Elementary School students (fourth-graders), school principal, and Chief Facilities Planning & Construction Officer in charge of capital facilities bond program.

PROJECT INFO:
This project included the installation of 17,000 square feet of turf play field and an asphalt track that replaced a decomposed granite play field. The nearly $350,000 project was funded by the school district's Proposition Z, the general obligation bond measure approved by voters in 2012. Construction began in August and was completed this month.
