SAN DIEGO UNIFIED GENERAL COUNSEL LEAVING FOR PRIVATE PRACTICE
SAN DIEGO -- Mark Bresee, General Counsel of San Diego Unified School
District, has resigned from the district, effective Nov. 30.
Bresee informed the Superintendent of his decision a week ago, and submitted
his letter of resignation to the Board of Education on Oct. 21. He will join
the education law firm of Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo
(http://www.aalrr.com/aboutus/aboutus.aspx) as a partner.
Since joining San Diego Unified two years ago, Bresee has focused on
reorganizing the district legal office to reduce costs by handling more
legal matters with in-house staff.
"Mark has provided excellent counsel to the Board and excellent leadership
for our legal services office. Through his efforts we
realized significant savings in our overall legal expenses," said Richard
Barrera, Board President. "Mark is as fine a public servant as I
have ever encountered. Thanks in large part to his work and leadership in
labor negotiations, our employees agreed to share in the sacrifice through
financial concessions that are helping us survive the on-going fiscal crisis
facing the district. We wish Mark well in his new position and thank him for
his service to our district and our students."
In his new position with Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo, Bresee will
represent school districts throughout Southern California on legal matters
and labor negotiations.
