State and Local Leaders Recognize First High School to Become Linked
Learning Certified

School is Model for Improving Graduation Rates

WHO: Jack O¹Connell, State Superintendent of Public Instruction

Marty Block, California State Assemblymember
Tiffany Lynch, Community Relations Manager, Time Warner Cable
Students, School of Digital Media and Design

WHAT: Event to recognize the School of Digital Media and Design as the first
pathway to achieve Linked Learning Certification. The School of Digital and
Media Design, with 77% of its students of color and 68% socioeconomically
disadvantaged, has increased its state Academic Performance Index by 167
points over five years. 95% of its students head to postsecondary education
after graduation. It received national recognition this year as a Blue
Ribbon School. At the event students will present a website completed with
media and technology assistance from Time Warner.

Linked Learning is a high school improvement approach that combines strong
academics, demanding technical education, and real world experience in a
pathway centered around an industry theme, such as engineering, biomedicine
and health, or arts and media.

WHERE: Kearny High Educational Complex - Auditorium, 7651 Wellington Way,
San Diego, CA

WHEN: September 30th from 9:15am to 10:00am
