“Hello, My Name Is”

An Art Exhibit and Opening Reception featuring art work from students

What:   Opening reception for an exhibition by Lynn Susholtz in collaboration with The New Arrival Center (NAC) at Crawford High School. Students from the Crawford High School NAC have worked with Lynn Susholtz creating art that tells stories of their travels from their home countries. The New Arrival Center provides a solid foundation in oral and written English for students who are new to the United States. The NAC began at Crawford in the 2008-09 school year to serve immigrant and refugee groups of secondary students. Most of the students have had some form of interrupted formal education and have experienced varying degrees of violence and trauma.  These students have already overcome enormous obstacles in their young lives and are now learning a new language, culture, social, and educational system. They strive to achieve their goals and better their lives with a level of sincerity and enthusiasm that belies the awful situations that many of them have escaped. That they are now able and ready to tell their stories is a testament to their will to survive and now thrive. The exhibit raises funds to support the arts program at the New Arrival Center.

When:  Opening Reception, Feb. 6, 2015, from 5-7 p.m.
