WHAT: Do you like a good read now and then? If you do, come along as we Read Across America…and back again. San Diego Unified elementary schools will be celebrating the National Education Association’s Read Across America, an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on the birthday of the beloved children's author Dr. Seuss.
WHEN: The majority of events will be held on March 2, however, some schools will hold events throughout the week. See event details below.

EVENT DETAILS:
Monday, March 2
- Sessions Elementary School will be co-hosting its event with its military partners. Following the Monday morning assembly that starts at 7:40 am., the Commanding Officer, Captain Warner, and 20 other military folks will join the school to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday. At 8 a.m., the military will be deployed to separate classrooms donning Dr. Seuss hats and carrying Dr. Seuss books, where they will then read to the children. - Cherokee Point Elementary School will welcome community members from 8–10:30 a.m. to read and then present a book as a gift to students in grades Pre-K-5. There will be a welcome reception and breakfast in the school library from 8–8:30 a.m. Cherokee Point Elementary School, 3735 38th St., 92015.
- Jones Elementary School will have five Vons managers read Dr. Seuss books to students from 8–9:40 a.m. Jones Elementary School, 2751 Greyling Dr., 92123.
- Walker Elementary School will have a “Literature Comes to Life” staff and student assembly. Grades K-2 (8-9 a.m.); Grades 3-5 (9:30- 10:30 a.m.) Walker Elementary School, 9225 Hillery Dr., 92124.
- Fay Elementary School will have guest readers, including Miss California Marina Inserra, San Diego State University’s College of Education Dean Dr. Joseph Johnson, CBS 8 Sports Anchor John Howard and San Diego Unified Board Member Richard Barrera, read a Dr. Seuss or other special book to students. - Edison Elementary School will have a school-wide event from 1:45-2:15 p.m. Student and staff members, along with volunteers from Target, will be sharing their love of reading. Edison Elementary School, 4077 35th St., 92104.
Tuesday, March 3
- Lindbergh Schweitzer Elementary School will have 10 therapy dogs from Paws’itive Teams; authors Kevin Gerard, James Raney and Salina Yoon; and educators Jessica John from Helen Woodward and Krystie Burton from the San Diego Zoo share a book with students from 9:30-11 a.m. Lindbergh Schweitzer Elementary School, 4133 Mt. Wednesday, March 4
- Rosa Parks Elementary will host a carnival and a free book giveaway for children from 12:30-2:00 p.m. Rosa Parks Elementary School, 4510 Landis St., 92105
- Field Elementary - Family Literacy Night. The school will have a professional storyteller presenting to a large group and then break-out small group participation, local public librarian visitor, take-home craft, family reading room, take-home literacy information packet for parents, and a book giveaway for all children that attend. 5-7:15 p.m.
