Lincoln High to Host its First College Fair

WHAT:  As part of a broader effort to build an accessible and college-going culture to support all students, Lincoln High School will hold its first college fair. Students and their families will have the opportunity to hear from representatives of colleges and universities, military recruiters and local organizations about options available to them after graduation.

WHEN:  Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

WHERE:  Old Gym and Center Quad, Lincoln High School, 4777 Imperial Avenue (92113), http://www.sandi.net/lincoln

DETAILS:  Representatives from area colleges and universities, alumni from several of the nation’s historically black colleges and universities, military recruiters and local organizations that support college-bound students will present information to students and their families to help develop students’ post-secondary plans. The parent-to-parent workshop will involve parents of Lincoln alumni sharing strategies to support students’ paths to high school graduation, and college-and career-readiness. This is a free event and no advanced registration is required. Parking is available in the Lincoln High parking structure. One lucky student attending the fair will receive a free computer from The San Diego Futures Foundation.

Colleges/Universities scheduled to have representatives or alumni in attendance include:  San Diego State, UC San Diego, University of San Diego, San Diego City College, National University, Alliant International, Point Loma Nazarene, Mesa College, Grossmont College, Cuyamaca College, Miramar College, Southwestern College, Grambling State University, Morehouse College, Johnson C. Smith University, Tuskegee University, Howard University, and North Carolina A&T State University.

PROGRAM OUTLINE:

-  10 a.m. - 1 p.m. – Institutions and organizations presenting

-  10:30 a.m. – Financial aid presentation

-  11:30 a.m. – Parent-to-parent workshop 

-  12:30 p.m. – Recent Lincoln alumni speak with current high school students
