WHAT: Mira Mesa High School’s “Sapphire Sound” Marching Band and Color Guard have been invited to perform in the 2016 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California. They will be receiving their official invitation and tournament banner from Tournament of Roses President Mike Matthiessen.

NOTABLE ATTENDEES: Tournament of Roses President Mike Matthiessen, Superintendent Cindy Martin, Area 2 Superintendent Lamont Jackson, San Diego City Councilman Chris Cate, 3rd District County Supervisor Dave Roberts, Thomas Workman of the U.S. National Parks Service and representatives from Congressman Scott Peter’s office and the Office of San Diego Mayor Kevin Falconer.
VISUALS: Mira Mesa High students, parents, teachers and administrators will be gathering at an assembly to celebrate the invitation to the 2016 Tournament of Roses Parade.
BACKGROUND: The Tournament of Roses President announced earlier this month the 20 bands that will participate in the 2016 Rose Parade. Mira Mesa High is the first school to be presented with their official invitation and banner. Being selected to play the 127th Rose Parade on New Year’s Day is a tremendous opportunity and honor for the students of “Sapphire Sound” Marching Band and Color Guard.
